2nd NIES International Forum: 2nd International Forum on Sustainable Future in Asia
The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan, and co-organized by Udayana University (UNUD, Indonesia), CCROM SEAP - Bogor Agricultural University (CCROM SEAP IPB, Indonesia), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Thailand) and Integrated Research System for Sustainably Science of the University of Tokyo (IR3S, UTokyo, Japan) held three (3) days workshops from January 26 to 28, 2017 at Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia.
The objective of this forum is to understand the efforts made by scientist, policy-makers and enterprises to secure a sound a sound environment in Asia, determine the shifts in policy and institutional transformations and identify the gaps that threaten sustainable development in the region. The three (3) days forum focuses on the five pressing environmental issues in the region, namely (1) Environmental Monitoring, (2) Environmental Risk and Health, (3) Biodiversity, (4) Waste Management and Recycling, and (5) Adaption and Mitigation Actions for Climate Change. The forum was seek new ways of building bridges between science and policy through stimulating discussions among key stakeholders, catalyzing coherent researches on relevant policy issues through knowledge networks and institutional mechanisms to support trans-boundary thinking and problem-solving, and determining feasible paths towards truly sustainable societies through converting aspirations into actions at local, national and regional levels.
